when
comparing the
beginning and ending of the book,
noticeable themes and motifs take place. particularly in the
beginning and closing paragraphs. they both have a sea fairing motif to them. notice that both scenes depict either a horizon or a sea, which could represent many things about the world
Janie lives in. even tide is
mentioned in both of them in accordance to experiences. the main difference to both of them is that the
beginning paragraph has a slightly hopeless overtone, "his dreams mocked to death by time"(
Hurston, 1) conveying hopelessness in
achieving all of ones dreams, while the last paragraph conveys a sense of experience and light.
